RMAN bkp full "stupid" question

Recommended Posts

Hi again,

what happens if before a bkp full with rman , due to human error, some archive log are deleted?

i think the bkp terminate in error, right?

To resolve this problem i must run crosscheck command, right?

but after that will it consistence?

which problems may i have if i will do a restore and recovery?

i'm sorry for the "stupid" question but i can't find an answer about it.

Hi,

This is not a stupid question!

First, what kind of backup are you taking?

Cumulative, incremental?

Please review:

http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_rman_backup_types.htm

If archive logs are deleted, the safe approach is a full cold backup, or a full hot backup.

These types of RMAN backups only needs archived redo logs that are created after the backup begins.

For the full story, see this great RMAN book:

http://www.rampant-books.com/book_1002_rman_backup_recovery.htm

Good luck!

Thank you, in my "test case" i use daily FULL HOT BKP ; so my question is:

what happen if i delete  some archive between this FULL BKP?

if i understand what you  wrote ahead i think the backup and eventually restore to that point in time is valid.

What happen instead the delete of the archive happens between an L0 FULL BACKUP and an L1 incremental backup?

is better redo an L0?

THX again.

Hi,

The rule is to only nuke archived redo logs after you have a fully recoverable savepoint.

Disk is super cheap, just keep them!
