Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

one question: exists documentation, best practice, notes, everything that says the right way for setting  the storage parameter (like initial , next) to improve performance and avoid space waste?

maybe this question is trivial but i haven't find nothing about it.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

That’s a good question!

Disk is so cheap now that most folks don’t set PCTUSED.

This may help:

http://www.remote-dba.net/t_tuning_pctfree_pctused.htm

For massive inserts, set PCTUSED to a high value, so only dead empty blocks are placed on the free list.

Actually, blocksize and average row length matters the most!

Remember, disk I/O is the single most expensive operation in any database.

Cache frequently used data!
